Macomb County Truck Accident Verdict
Macomb County, Michigan: A jury recently awarded over $5 million to a man and his wife for injuries that the injured man suffered in a Macomb County truck accident. The Macomb Daily reported in the newspaper that the 48 year old Bruce Township man suffered serious orthopedic injuries and a traumatic brain injury when a friend driving a pickup truck ran over him. The truck was owned by Chrysler corporation. The injured man’s wife was awarded damages for her loss of society and companionship related to her husband’s injuries.
This is an interesting award based upon the size of the verdict alone. Macomb County is traditionally believed to have a conservative jury pool, meaning that they do not traditionally hand out just sizeable verdicts even in catastrophic cases. Apparently, the defense attorney and insurance company were banking on the fact that this tradition would continue, but they picked the wrong jury for the case. The jury clearly felt compelled to award the injury victim and his wife an appopriate award, even if it was for a large dollar amount.
