Michigan Construction Accident Kills Worker
A Michigan construction worker was tragically killed yesterday when scaffolding from a construction project in Detroit unexpectedly collapsed. Gilbert Danz of Roseville was working near I-75 between Grand Boulevard and Vernor Street when the accident occurred. My sympathies go out to his man’s wife and three children. There was no reason for this accident to have happened. My firm represents victims of injuries and their families in similar cases. In investigating case similar to this one, it is important to determine all possible claims the family may bring. Here the family will have a workers compensation claim against the worker’s employer. They may also have a wrongful death claim if the scaffolding was negligently manufactured, installed, or maintained. It is necessary to determine who was responsible for the scaffold and why it collapsed.
In a wrongful death case, the family can collect damages for loss of financial support based on the deceased’s lost wages, funeral expenses, and loss of childcare if the deceased helped care for his children. The family can also collect damages for loss of companionship for the emotional trauma of his wife for losing the companionship of her husband and of his children for losing their father.
